Where can I find quality antiques for great prices in the new york, new jersey area?

I am moving back to New York from abroad and need to furnish my apartment from top to bottom. I have a tight budget but love antiques. I was wondering if anyone knows where to get beautiful things for great prices… Thanks!!

You will usually pay top prices when you visit antique dealers. Best advice is to look at classified ads in the newspaper, visit flea markets or yard sales, and attend estate auctions. Estate auctions usually have all of the everyday items you need to set up housekeeping at incredibly low prices. Antiques might be another story. While it can be worthwhile buying antiques at estate auctions, you will probably face bidding competition from collectors and dealer. Many auction businesses post lots of pictures and descriptions of the contents of upcoming auctions on their websites. This can save you a lot of legwork. The only drawback to auctions is the time spent waiting around for the items you are interested in to come up for bid.
