Cork Message Board

how do i make one of those message boards with ribbon crisscrossed over it?

I’ve found some DIY sites online but all their instructions are sort of vague and none have very helpful pictures. Could anyone give me some step-by-step instructions on how to make one with a cork board i already have? i also have about 12 metres of ribbon to work with.

Make yourself a paper pattern the size of your cork board. That way until to decide what you are going to do you are not marking up your board.

The goal is to put your ribbons or elastic across your cork board in a cross pattern. So mark across the top, bottom and ends about every so many inches (3, 4, 5 or 6) depending on how close you want your crosses. Draw it with a pencil. Start with 6 and if you don’t like it then mark in between the 6 inches marks and you will have the 3 pattern. Or do it at 2 and you will have a plaid looking pattern, especially if you vary the colors.

Then, when you have decided put the ribbons onto your cord board. If the cork is removable from the frame do that. Put on the ribbons and then put back in the frame. If no frame, just bring your ribbons around to the back and glue or nail in place. OR glue to the front edge of the cord board using enough glue to secure well, but not make a wide glue area because it will take away from your usable space.

You are done. Use it in good health. Make some up to gifts to friends. Or better yet get them over to build one for themselves. Make it a party.
